How wallet setup will work

This is a preview of the planned five-step setup flow. The Identity Wallet, web portal and verification service are not live yet.

The service is not live yet

You cannot create a wallet, submit identity documents, complete verification, or sign in today. This guide explains the planned experience only. Join the launch list to be notified when the wallet and web portal become available.

What you will need at launch

Check what you need — a current identity document, a phone with a camera, and good lighting.

  1. Read and agree to the consent notice

    When the wallet launches, the app will show exactly what will be collected, why, how long it is kept, and how to withdraw. Biometric consent will be separate from everything else — you will agree to it specifically, or not at all.

    • Consent is recorded with a timestamp so there is an auditable record.
    • You can withdraw at any time — see Revoking consent in the help centre.

  2. Scan your identity document — front and back

    At launch, the camera will guide you: corner brackets show where to place the document, and the app will check for glare, blur and cut-off edges. Document details will be read automatically (OCR).

    • Use even light and a plain background — glare is the most common retry cause.
    • You will see every field the app read and can re-scan if anything is wrong.

  3. Take a selfie with liveness challenges

    The planned app will ask you to blink, turn your head, and smile in a random order. These checks are designed to prove that a live person is present — not a photo, video replay or mask — and matches the document photo.

    • Face the camera in even light, without a hat or tinted glasses.
    • Spoken guidance is available for each challenge — see Accessibility support.

  4. Add hardware biometrics (optional, for Trusted level)

    If your phone has a fingerprint or iris sensor, you can capture through the platform's secure hardware. At the same time the app obtains a device integrity attestation — Google Play Integrity or Apple App Attest — proving the app and device haven't been tampered with.

    • Skipping this step is fine: it limits your maximum level, nothing else.
    • Biometric material captured here never leaves the platform's secure hardware unencrypted.

  5. Review everything, then submit — encrypted

    You see a summary of what will be submitted. When you confirm, the payload is encrypted on your phone (X25519-XSalsa20-Poly1305 envelope encryption) before transmission. The network verifies it and issues your verification level.

    • Verification typically completes within minutes.
    • Your wallet then shows your level and the proofs you can share.
